Shadow of the Sun: Big Finish’s first Doctor Who adventure produced entirely in lockdown

If you’re reading this in Spring 2020 in the midst of the Coronavirus pandemic, then I hope you and yours are safe and well. And if you’re finding yourself with more time on your hands and fancy something fun to listen to, I’ve written a full-cast Doctor Who audio drama for Big Finish Productions which is the very first to have been produced in lockdown. You can find the Radio Times article on it here and another by Screen Rant here.

Starring Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor, Louise Jameson as Leela and John Leeson as K9, Shadow of the Sun was recorded remotely with the actors all working from home studios, directed via Zoom by Nicholas Briggs. The supporting cast includes Barnaby Edwards, Paul Herzberg, Glen McCready and Fenella Woolgar, and it’s being released as a special download in May.

After an accident, the TARDIS lands on a luxury star-liner. Leaving their ship to repair itself, the Doctor, Leela and K9 find themselves facing a great terror: mingling at a cocktail party.

Something seems awry behind the pleasantries however. Guests are going missing, and equipment is breaking down. When the Doctor investigates further he discovers that the star-liner is literally on course for disaster.

But no-one seems surprised by this information, still less troubled. What’s going on? And can the Doctor and his friends save everyone… when nobody wants to be saved?
